OEG Sample Programs
Example Program 5: Safety

COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS

Type 2
There will be on the hour access to the Area coordinator during daylight hours. The Course coordinator may be involved in program duties during the day eg teaching at a climbing site or delivering food drops. There is generally no staffed base. Moderate to poor radio coverage in the area, generally not assisted by a UHF repeater. Groups can reliably contact the coordinator at 12 hourly intervals usually 8.00 am and pm. The area coordinator caries a mobile telephone at all times although the mobilenet coverage may be poor.

VEHICULAR ACCESS

Type 1
There is excellent vehicle access in the program area. The groups will be travelling and camping on or near vehicle tracks and may be up to 2 hours walk from tracks. OEG will provide at least 1 4WD vehicle to operate in the program area.

DIFFICULTY OF ACTIVITY PROGRAM

Type 2
This type of program is generally for students who have had an introduction to outdoor skills before. Skills are however revised on the program. Terrain may be rougher than at an introductory level and some amount of physical fitness is required. Students with particular medical conditions need advice from their physicians prior to participation in the program. Some degree of familiarity with outdoor skills will assist the student to benefit from and cope with the program. The learning environment is supportive and students will take some responsibility for the daily functioning of the group.

OEG SUPPORT STAFF AVAILABLE

Type 2
An OEG coordinator and support vehicle is located at the program area and is generally within 20 km of the groups. The coordinator may be involved with program duties (eg. teaching at a climbing site or delivering food or equipment around the program area). Local emergency services are alerted to OEG presence in the area but may be some time away from the groups.
