BUSH COOKING
Goals
Learn the nutritional qualities of traditional Aboriginal foods
Emphasise the complex skills required to obtain these foods
Use senses of taste, smell and touch to experience a traditional custom.

Potential Activities
A brief discussion explains what traditional foods are eaten by Aboriginal people and the nutritional benefits of these foods for survival. Methods for catching and gathering foods are described (Kangaroo, Emu, Fish, Turtle, Kabunge). A fire is lit traditionally and built up before being allowed to reduce to coals suitable for cooking. Food is prepared and cooked traditionally in the fire until fully cooked. The cooked food is tested and then shared amongst the group. Tastes and textures are compared and discussed.
