BUSHWALK AND FOODS
Goals
Create awareness of food sources in the natural environment.
Demonstrate specific plants and their uses
Encourage a respect for the bush and for Aboriginal sites of significance.

Potential Activities

Students are taken on a short bushwalk (about an hour) around the base of
the Rubicon State Forest. Useful plants, scarred trees and Aboriginal sites are identified with reference to their importance to everyday life for food, medicine and utilitarian objects. Students become aware of indigenous food sources - such as yams, saps and berries- and are shown natural sources of string, ochre pigments and soap.
