ROCK AND BARK PAINTING
Goals
Become familiar with some specific traditional Koorie
designs, and symbols.
Learn about the Dreaming stories and spirits to which these designs refer.
Draw on own imagination to create a graphic image on a natural surface.
Present and describe own creative work to others
Potential
Some traditional Dreaming stories are introduced,
along with the graphic designs, patterns and symbols associated
with each. Students disperse briefly to find a suitable piece
of bark or stone on which to paint their own artwork. Students
are encouraged to use imagination and the Dreaming stories
as inspiration to conceive and create a small painting. On
completion, students present their creations to the group and
relate the story it represents.
