OUTDOOR LIVING SKILLS
Goals

To identify the key necessities for human survival in wilderness environment.
To apply appropriate method and strategy for survival and rescue
To confer and act as a cooperative group

Potential Activities
Students are confronted with a survival scenario as survivors of an aircraft
crash, who have retrieved only a tarp, ropes, empty jugs, matches and a tin. After some instructive discussion about the immediate requirements for human survival, students confer, decide on a course of action, and form teams to pursue this – eg build shelter, make fire, find clean water. Since the scenario is physically acted out, the shelter built and tried out, the fire made – students can observe the results of their decisions and following the exercise, assess their efforts, suggesting what went wrong or right and why.
