ORIENTEERING
Goals

To practice navigation, observation and compass skills
To emphasise teamwork and communication
Inspire confidence in traversing natural spaces.

Potential Activities
There are three potential orienteering courses available at Jungai, each targeting different sections of the navigation spectrum. The first course is a simple map orientation and reading exercise suitable for years 5, 6 & 7. Course Two is a progressive course which incorporates pacing, map orientation and reading, teamwork and communication, and suits years 7 to 10. In Course Three, set markers must be found using grid references and a legend. Works well in conjunction with Course Two for years 8, 9 & 10. For less advanced groups, pre-course teaching can be used with all orienteering courses to increase student comprehension and enjoyment.
