DAMPER MAKING
Goals

Learn to make a food historically eaten by travellers, stockmen and other colonial Europeans in the Australian bush.
Follow a simple recipe and important safety guidelines.

Potential
Damper has long been a staple for non-indigenous people travelling through the Australian bush – in contrast to traditional Aboriginal food sources. In pairs, students learn to mix, form and cook damper dough on a small open fire. Sampling warm, freshly-cooked damper with jam is the reward for their careful efforts. A suggested discussion looks at the nutritional content of bush diets – ie, damper & mutton in contrast to an indigenous diet.
