ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Goals
Understand one’s personal impact on the environment
Use observation skills to see human impact on the local environment, and how long its mark remains.

Potential Activities
Following an introductory discussion about human impact on the natural
world, students are provided a Rubbish Kit. Students estimate the time each rubbish item needs to break down into the environment, then check their results against the enclosed timeline. The subsequent discussion encourages students to think about the items they use and discard in their everyday life, and examines the concept of minimal impact through ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’. An extension activity is the ‘Rubbish Art Contest’ in which students compete for a prize by creating an art piece from rubbish items they have collected in their immediate environment.
