Here at The Outdoor Education Group we place the utmost priority on making effective and successful risk management an organisational responsibility. Every member of staff plays a vital role in the risk management process and is fully trained and experienced in their area of work.
Our staff are chosen from around the world through a rigorous selection and performance criteria process. We are proud of all of our staff and the expertise and diversity they bring to our company.
Naturally, all Field Staff hold current Working with Children Checks as well as Wilderness First Aid and CPR qualifications. They have constant opportunities to update their skills under OEG’s dedicated trainers who are regarded as among the finest in the profession.
OEG employs a combination of strategies in order to effectively manage risk. Our full time Risk Management Department continually manage, monitor, review and update our internal processes, manuals and policies to ensure that systems operate effectively and efficiently.
OEG understands that risk should not only be construed as negative, and that all young people are exposed to risk taking behaviours as they mature. Outdoor Education programs allow students to learn how to recognise risk and adjust their level of response appropriately. Our role is to facilitate a supportive environment where the foreseeable risks are managed.
Key precautionary measures are put in place on every program so that all incidents can be managed quickly and appropriately. All Field Staff carry, and are familiar with, specific Field Practices Manuals which outline emergency response plans that cover all foreseeable scenarios.
All OEG programs are provided with the appropriate forms of communication (radios, mobile or satellite telephones) backed up by a 24 / 7 support system known as All Hours Contact (AHC). Managed by a senior staff member, AHC provides support for all groups in the field, communicates with the School’s counterpart and ensures that our field team receive regular fire, weather and other relevant information.
Our Risk Management team are highly regarded both nationally and internationally. They regularly present at conferences throughout Australia and overseas, as part of our commitment to learning from, and sharing our knowledge with, others in the outdoor profession.
